We have earlier shared mobile phone tricks like a GPRS Hack For Reliance Mobile and it got a fair response so i am sharing a simple trick that will help BSNL users to send free SMS from their mobile phone tweaking just a single setting.

Send Free SMS From Your Vodafone Mobile

There have been numerous tricks for sending FREE sms from different mobile operators. These tricks or so called Hacks work only for a particular period of time .

All you need to do is :

  • Write the sms in the following format,
SEND Mobile Number Date-Month-Year Time Content
For example, you want to send a sms to Mobile number 9444182217 with content “Hi ! I have found a new sms trick on TechVorm”, then you will write the sms as follows on your mobile phone–
SEND 9971123456 131209 1630 Hi ! I have found a new sms trick on TechVorm
  • After writing the sms in the format given above, just send the sms to 54545 (Toll Free).
Take care of the fact that the Time should be in 24 hours format.
And thats it !

In this post i am sharing with you a similar hack for BSNL network. And as i say in all the posts involving such hacks there are no guarantees, i CANNOT assure you that this ‘Hack’ will work. NO ASSURANCES are there.

Working GPRS Trick For Vodafone

We have constantly shared tweaks and tricks to enjoy free SMS and GPRS services among various networks and here comes another working trick (as for now) for vodafone subscribers which you may find useful if you want to enjoy free GPRS services.

All you have to do to activate free GPRS is :-

  • Go to GPRS settings in your handset
  • Edit the settings manually by entering the below given codes

APN: vlive

IP: 196.6.120.12

PORT: 8080
Browser: Use UCWEB 6.3

  • Set the above settings as your default and you are done

Surf Internet On Airtel For Free !

Free GPRS setting for Airtel is very difficult to find these days. Everyone wants to surf internet on their mobile devices for free without paying a single penny ! In a previous post written by me some time back on GPRS Trick For Reliance Mobile , i got requests in comments section asking for a similar trick for AIRTEL mobile too. I, therefore decided to write a post on GPRS hack for AIRTEL mobile.

Before providing you with the settings, i would like to tell you that please dont spam the comments section, if these settings dont work for you. These hacks are temporary one’s and may or may not work for you. Such type of hacks are regularly patched by programmers at AIRTEL (And that’s what they are paid for ! ).

Also, i recommend you to take a backup of existing settings, so that you can easily revert back to them.

Following are the settings that you need to input into your respective cell phone(s) :

After changing the above mentioned settings, check your prepaid balance by dialing *123#. Now open up your (Default) browser and surf for a while. After a while, check your mobile balance (I hope the balance remains the same).

Wireless Application Protocol (WAP)

In a Mobile Network, several constraints are used to deliver wireless data. For wireless, the handheld devices should be portable, have limited size and weight, which results in reduced memory capacity, less power CPU and reduced user interface. Wireless networks also have limited bandwidth, longer coverage and a degree of reliability. The wireless handheld devices can access Internet applications only if all these constraints are carefully addressed.

To address these constraints carefully, In June 1997, the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) forum was founded. The development of this forum was important in wireless industry.

WAP forum has developed a set of wireless protocol specifications and offer these protocols to many industry groups. The result is that many mobile operators and handset manufacturers have joined the WAP-enabled devices. Before WAP-enabled devices, wireless data services were not successful. So, to improve wireless data market, WAP is introduced with limited computing and memory capacities, WAP allows a Web browser in handheld devices to access Internet.

WAP Architecture

WAP architecture consists of three operational units.

  • WAP handset or handheld device

  • WAP Gateway

  • Origin server or Web server

The WAP handset or handheld and origin server communicates with each other through Mobile Network. WAP handset received the contents and these contents are encoded in binary format of Wireless Markup Language (WML) for efficient transmission. A WAP Gateway, which is located between Internet/server and mobile/WAP handset, receives these contents and decodes them from binary format to text format. This text format is then forward to origin server. The origin server decides what to retrieve from the text format. The Uniform Resource Locator (URL) of the server specifies the files and these files are transferred to WAP Gateway through Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). The WAP Gateway encodes the HTTP header into WML byte code and then this result is transferred to WAP handset. A Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) filter is also located between origin server and WAP Gateway. It acts like a translator and translates the HTML format into Wireless Markup Language (WML) format, which is used in wireless applications.

WAP Models

For handset devices WAP defines a user-interface model. In WAP handset devices up and down scroll keys are used for navigation. For menu option selection and context-specific functions Soft Keys are used. Some examples of WAP phone models are following.

  • Nokia 7110

  • Ericsson R320

  • Ericsson MC 218

GSM 900/1800 dual-band supports these models as well. These models are equipped with large display, micro browser, Voice memo, full graphics, calendars, contact manager and a complete Chinese interface.

WAP Protocols

WAP Protocols are defined in terms of WAP Protocol stack.

  • Wireless Datagram Protocol (WDP)

  • Wireless Transport Layer Security (WTLS)

  • Wireless Transaction Protocol (WTP)

  • Wireless Session Protocol (WSP)

  • Wireless Application Environment (WAE)

1. Wireless Datagram Protocol (WDP): The WAP transport layer is defined by the WDP. To the upper-layer protocols of the WAP, the WDP offers consistent services and with it these layers can function independently of the underlying layers.

2. Wireless Transport Layer Security (WTLS): The WAP security layer is defined by the WTLS. By using encryption and decryption techniques, the WTLS provides unchanged and uncorrupted data integrity.

3. Wireless Transaction Protocol (WTP): The WAP transaction layer is defined by the WTP. WTP is similar to Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), which controls that traffic of data and also saves processing and memory costs in WAP handset. By using retransmission and acknowledgments techniques it provides reliability.

4. Wireless Session Protocol (WSP): The WAP session layer is defined by the WSP. WSP supports client and server for exchange of contents, by establishing a session from client to server and releases the session and saves the power of WAP handset, when it is idle.

5. Wireless Application Environment (WAE): The WAP application layer is defined by the WAE. To efficiently built applications it provides an environment for mobile operators. It also defines a set of formats, images, phone book records and calendar information.

Advantages of WAP

WAP Protocols are specially designed to reduce the amount of information, which is delivered through wireless network of limited bandwidth. To deliver the same information WAP uses 50 percent less packets as compare to HTTP/TCP.

General Packet Radio Service (GPRS)

GPRS protocol is a packet-switch protocol; define for web applications in GSM network. In other words Internet on GSM network is standardized as GPRS network. GPRS has digital structure and this structure based on Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) technique. One TDMA frame has 8 time slots (TSs). These TSs can be allocated to users, and single TS can be shared by several active users for uplink and downlink purposes. Different coding schemes are used to enhance data rate from 9Kbps to 150 Kbps per user, and it takes 0.5 to 1 second. Security features in GPRS is provided by GSM network.

GPRS Architecture

Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) circuit-switch architecture does not support the GPRS packet-switch architecture. Thus, GPRS requires its own network architecture. Several networks and databases e.g. Mobile Station (MS), Base Station Subsystem (BSS), Home Location Register (HLR), Visitor Location Register (VLR) in existing GSM network are modified in GPRS network.

GPRS architecture introduces the following network nodes to GSM architecture.

  • Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN)

  • Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN)

  • Mobile Station (MS)

  • Base Station System (BSS)

  • Home Location Register (HLR)

  • Visitor Location Register (VLR)

1.Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN): In GPRS network SGSN is equivalent to MSC. Packets of data between MSC and Public Switch Data Network (PSDN) are transferred and received by SGSN.

2.Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN): GSM databases e.g. HLR and VLR are supported by GGSN. It also interacts with external packet-switch networks.

3.Mobile Station (MS): In GPRS network MS consists of Mobile Terminal (MT) and Terminal Equipment (TE). A computer attached to MT is called a ME. Through air, MT communicates with the BSS.

4.Base Station System (BSS): In BSS, Base Transceiver Station (BTS) and Base Station Controller (BSC) are modified to support GPRS channel coding schemes BTS is modified while to forward calls to Mobile Switching Centre (MSC) and data to SGSN through Packet Control Unit (PCU), is supported by BSC. One SGSN is served by one BSC.

5.Home Location Register (HLR): In GPRS, HLR contains information about routing. To map an MS to one or more GGSNs, update the SGSN and to store the Internet Protocol (IP) address, this information is accessed by both SGSN and GGSN.

6.Visitor Location Register (VLR): In GPRS. VLR contains the SGSN number and this number indicates the MS currently served by the SGSN.

GPRS Interfaces

Different interfaces are used for routing between network nodes in GPRS.

  • Um interface provides communication between MS and BSS.

  • Gb interface provides connection between BSS and SGSN.

  • Gn interface provides connection between SGSN and GGSN within the same GPRS network.

  • Gp interface provides connection between SGSN and GGSN when they are in different GPRS network.

  • Gi interface provides connection between GGSN and external networks.

  • Gs interface provides communication between MSC and SGSN.

GPRS functional Groups

The functions which are defined in GPRS are following.

  • Network access function: Point to point data transfer, registration of MS with packet data protocols, radio resources for MS communication and charging information about packet transmission, is provided by this function.

  • Packet routing and transfer function: Routing of data between an MS and destination, conversion of GPRS address to external address and forwarding of packets between an MS and GGSN, is provided by this function.

  • Logical link management function: The communication between an MS and the GSM network is maintained by it.

  • Radio resources management function: Radio communication paths are allocated by it.

  • Mobility management function: Current location of an MS is kept by it. When an MS is entered to a new area, all routing and location in formations are also updated by it.

  • Network management function: If provides mechanisms to support network functions related to GPRS.

Advantages

The major advantage of GPRS is that, to access data no dial-up connection is required. It is an inexpensive mobile data service as compared to Short Message Service (SMS) in GSM.
